Unionville Stories

Unionville's Story of Irish Immigration

This presentation was given by Tim LeBouthillier in 2024 for the Farmington Valley CT Heritage Network. It tells the story of Irish immigration to Farmington and Unionville. Irish immigrants came to this area as laborers and indentured servants. Many of the men worked building the Farmington Canal. Though their start was difficult they assimilated relatively quickly. Many had children who grew up to have very successful careers.

The Story of Myrtle Mills

A video is now available of the presentation given by Tim LeBouthillier in 2024 for the Farmington Valley CT Heritage Network telling the story of Myrtle Knitting Mills' move to Unionville in 1924 and their evolution from a manufacturer of sweaters and other items for the military to the discount store many of us remember.  Video / PowerPoint

Coach Grocki

John Grocki's life was one of service - first to his country in WWII then to our town where he spent thirty-five years coaching basketball, football, track, golf, gymnastics and lacrosse at Farmington High School. These three newspaper clippings help tell that story.
